12/29/2011 Happy Holidays, Please note that we have different groups that I am referencing when I discuss benefits. They are Retirees that are Pre-Medicare, and retirees that are eligible for Medicare .The active members that have Highmark the PPO Plan or that have Kaiser the HMO Plan, and the new hires that have the Choices Plan, which is the same plan as salaried employees. If you have any questions contact me, and I can further advise you about your specific plan and benefits. The holidays are upon us and the benefit enrollment period has officially ended; if you have any questions or problems regarding your 2012 elections, please contact Info line and speak with a representative. Please call me if you need further assistance. Many of you are contemplating retirement, and there are so many decisions to be made. I would recommend that we set up a time that you and your spouse can come in so we can go over the process, and adequately address your questions and concerns. · Did you know that under Cobra you can continue your vision and dental for an additional 18 months after retirement? · If you are on sick leave and you have been out for 18 months or more you may not have this option if you elect to retire. · Did you know that we have eight types of retirement that you may be eligible for? Many of them include a payment of a Special Retirement Pension ,which is simply a one- time payment made in place of the first three months of your regular retirement. This payment does not apply to a disability retirement or (for an age 701/2 required distribution) and in place of any supplemental pension, or a deferred vested retirement. You are also paid for any unused vacation. (Please see page 12 of Cleveland UAW SPD dated July 1, 2008) · Please also note that new hires after April 1, 2009 Do Not have retiree health care. On a personnel note we have to get all our brothers and sisters health care! We also want them to have a defined pension. Let’s look at a defined pension vs. a defined contribution plan. Who wants a retirement plan that’s subject to change? Sick leave: Colonoscopy Did you know that if you have a colonoscopy it will qualify as an outpatient surgery, and that you will be paid for the day? Under an approved medical sick leave you receive no points, and are paid, so there is no reason not to have this possibly life saving procedure done. Your doctor must complete the necessary paperwork and submit it to Aetna certifying the disability. If you are a new hire under the Choices plan did you know that you can opt out of health care? Retirees have this option as well if a retiree opts out they will not receive cap credits, and their spouse cannot participate in the plan while they are not in the plan. · Please also note that if you are in the Choices plan unlike the Master plan (Highmark) you must per the plan have your hospitalization pre-certified for inpatient hospitalizations or treatment or within 48 hours of an emergency treatment. If you do not obtain precertification your benefits may be reduced for any days or treatments not certified. These are just a few health care facts. Please stop by and see me if you have any concerns regarding your health care plan or benefits. I wish you the peace that surpasses all understanding! May you find joy in each day, and may we always have compassion for one another. In Solidarity, Shervon Redd, UAW Local 1050 Benefit Representative Region 2-B Women’s Advisory Council Vice-President
