W.E. UPDATE All W.E./Skilled trades 3-10-2008 The painting grievance that was set to be heard in arbitration will be held at a later date. Nick Parenté, our regional Rep. did an outstanding job arbitrating the cases involving Phil Simonski and Bruce Seafler for back pay and discipline. In the Building and Yards Dept., he also did an excellent job with Facility Maintenance Specialist lines of progression grievance. The Grievance W.E.02-04 (Overtime Swiping) was settled prior to arbitration. The reason we settled was due to the fact of what was agreed to in the 2001 negotiations. The W.E. Overtime Agreement was not changed. The parties involved, however, agreed that the intention of the “Swiping Letter”, did indeed, supersede #23 of the W.E. Overtime Agreement. Instead of us taking a chance of losing the opportunity to come to some type of an agreement and to avoid more contracting out, the Union met with the company and agreed to these provisions: Memorandum of Agreement Alcoa, Inc. and the UAW, Local 1050 met on February 21, 2008, concerning Tuesday swiping notification for overtime in the Works Engineering department. Both parties agree: 1. The language negotiated in 2001 requiring Works Engineering employees to swipe to indicate their availability for overtime by the end of their shift on Tuesdays will be modified to require employees to swipe to indicate their availability for overtime by 7:30 AM Wednesday. In the case of a week where Thursday and/or Friday is a Holiday, notification will be moved up one day for every Holiday day. 2.Works Engineering employees shall have the ability to ‘opt out’ or cancel their swipe commitment to work overtime on the weekend as follows: a. Three (3) Opt-out opportunities for weekend overtime per calendar year will be provided. Opt-out opportunities expire at the end of each calendar year and cannot be rolled-over. b. One Opt-out opportunity will consist of a release from the schedule for one weekend day, either Saturday or Sunday, or the entire weekend. c. The election to opt out must be made the Thursday prior to the weekend by 11:00 AM. 3.Those not scheduled by the following times are not required to work, will not receive points and will be appropriately charged: d. End of shift for the 3rd shift on Friday e. 4 hours into 1st shift on Friday f. 2 hours into 2nd shift on Friday 4.In emergency situations the Company may canvass non-scheduled employees and can accept volunteers who had not initially swiped. 5.Tuesday notification of availability replaced Thursday refusal of overtime, Item #23 of the Overtime Agreement – Works Engineering. 6.This agreement settles grievance W.E. 02-04 and all other grievances associated with Tuesday notification. Excludes Holiday scheduling grievances. W.E.
