Workers Memorial Day
April 28, 2016
Safety: it’s about
our lives and our families.
Each year on April
28, the UAW observes Workers Memorial Day to honor
those workers who have died on the job. This year’s
theme is:
“WORKING for SAFE JOBS”
For all workers,
there is nothing more important than a safe
workplace. And, there is nothing more important to
our union than ensuring our worksites are as safe as
possible. We can be proud that our UAW Local 1050
Environmental Health & Safety Committee along with
our Joint EHS Committee is committed to providing a
safe working environment.
Unfortunately,
despite the UAW efforts, there have been seven UAW
members killed on the job in 2015 & 2016. There have
been two fatalities in May of 2015, one in January
2016 & one in February of 2016 all in other areas
where the UAW represents members. This is a somber
reminder to all of us that we must be ever vigilant.
We encourage all
members/employees to participate on April 28, 2016
in a moment of silence prior to the start of your
shifts
and a brief over look on our UAW members that
perished in their workplace. Next to the guard shack
(Gate 5) at noon.
Your Health & Safety
is our top concern everyday – not just on April 28th.
Fraternally,
Your UAW Local 1050 Environmental Health &
Safety Committee!
