Come join us!
For those
planning to retire and those that have, we ask that you join us in
the Retirees’ Chapter. Our meetings are held at the local union
hall on the third Thursday of every month, excluding August.
Official time of the meeting is 1:00 pm; bingo starts around 11:00
am and refreshments are served after the games are over. We
encourage all to give us a try.
As in any organization there is a cost.
The cost to be a member of the chapter is two dollars per month and
is voluntary. They can be deducted from your pension check or paid
at the local union hall. Please contact one of your representatives
in the plant for information you may need. Although we may have
retired, many of us are still involved in the local’s activities as
we support the local in its endeavors.
Beware of fraud and scams!
The downturns in the economy will always
bring out those who prey on the misery of others. Please be careful
and wary of those promising you a deal.
It
may be a bad deal.
For those who may
have been victimized please contact the Attorney General’s Office at
800-282-0515 or visit
www.speakoutohio.gov – TTY users call Relay Ohio at
800-325-2223.
Health Care Reform
As talks continue about health care,
many are losing their coverage or have none at all. The time for
talking is over, now action is required. Since first proposed by
Theodore Roosevelt there have been eighteen U.S. Presidents and 108
years have gone by. What does that say for a nation that is
allegedly the most educated and the wealthiest? Not much, I guess.
Our priorities seem to be on the winners of
American Idol
and
Dancing with the Stars.
For those who say that government should
not be in their health care, I ask why not? I, like many others are
very grateful for the Medicare we receive. Even with 80 percent
being covered by Medicare the other 20 percent not covered can be
very costly for those with chronic conditions or serious health
problems. The time for reform is past due. Please let the
politicians know your feelings on this issue.
Fraternally,
Larry
