RETIREES REPORT (Updated
12/29/2011)
Greetings to all,
As we approach the holidays we would certainly like
to express our thanks to everyone for their help and efforts in
the past year. We had some trying times, but we made it through.
We were successful in repealing Senate Bill 5 that
would have curtailed collective bargaining in the union movement
in this state. The proponents of this bill are now trying to
petition for a referendum vote for Ohio to be a right to work
state. Again, our work is cut out for us. They did not succeed
in 1958 and must not succeed if the issue is put on the ballot
this time.
For those in other states who support the right to work issue,
we should all ask how their states are doing in this economy and
how many jobs it created. Their idea of right to work means
less
pay and less union involvement.
For those about to retire or have retired, we ask you to join
our retirees ‘chapter at UAW local 1050. As in any organization,
survival depends on their numbers and funds. Currently, we have
492 retirees in the local with only a few paying their voluntary
dues. We are grateful for those that do. It is up to us to
continue the legacy that came before us so all may enjoy a life
of retirement. Please give us a try.
Looking back at the year’s, someone once said days drag on,
years fly. How true. It is approaching 50 years for me as a
member of local 1050. In those years I must say I have met and
worked with some of the best workers and people in the world. We
encountered good and bad times. We are survivors and we shall
prevail. Do I have regrets? Certainly. Do I have thanks and
respect for all those I have met? That too is certainly true as
I spent the time with you. God did bless me.
On behalf of local 1050’s retirees and retiree executive board
we express our heartfelt thanks for all that the members and
local does for us. We wish to all a very Happy Holiday and Happy
New Year. We ask you spread peace and joy to our troubled world.
Happy Holiday and Happy New Year to all.
