Our Thanks
 
       Please allow me on behalf of Local 1050 and its retirees, to offer thanks and appreciation to Brothers Mario Troncone, John Zawiski, Edward Vitigoj, and Robert Gillispie (deceased) for their years of service to the local and the retiree’s chapter. I must include their spouses also in our thanks as it takes many to keep things going.
  As you may or may not know a recent election of officers was held on June 21, 2007.  Elected were:
·          Larry Doyle - Chairman
·          Noah Ball - Vice Chairman
·          Robert Houston - Recording Secretary
·          Mario Troncone - Financial Secretary
·          Richard Wilson - Sergeant-at-Arms
·          George Volk - Trustee
·          George Lazration - Trustee
·          Jack Stewart - Board Member
 
       It is our charge and pledge to carry on and nurture the efforts of those who have previously led us. Again thanks to all of you.
 
Have You Received
Your Benefits?
 
       We certainly hope that all those who are eligible received their benefits from the corporation with the signing of the new contract. It’s amazing how many are forgotten or aren’t on the proper lists. If you were overlooked, contact the Local Union.
       Another benefit for those over 65 or disabled is a change in Ohio’s Homestead Exemption Act. It will lower your property tax. There is no income requirement and you must own the home or manufactured home as your primary place of residence as of January 1 in the year of application. Application must be received by October 1, 2007. More information is available at your County Auditor Office, Library and Website. Check to see if you qualify. Most of us will qualify.
 
How’s Your Health?
 
       I guess most of you are sick as I am over the way we in America run the Health Care system. Our last contract alone should give you and idea of which way the corporations and providers are going. Their solutions are simple; pass on the cost to those they employ or drop coverage. We all know that doesn’t make us feel better or cure the ills of the health care system. The Single Payer System is long over due. To those who say it won’t work, I say nothing will work if you don’t try it. Make your voices heard to those who govern and lead this country or we all will get sicker.
       In closing, enjoy the rest of the summer and give an old friend or relative a call. You both may enjoy it.
